Powering the next generation of apprentices

17 July 2009

EMBARGOED UNTIL 17 JULY 2009

Integral Energy today called for those eager to learn a trade to apply for one of 60 apprenticeships on offer at the electricity corporation.

Integral Energy is investing more than $1 million a day to upgrade and maintain its electricity network to meet the demands of growth, improve reliability and to replace ‘baby boomer’ assets.

“This apprenticeship program is a positive investment in the future,” said Integral Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Vince Graham.

“It provides jobs, helps to improve service levels and plays a key part in supporting local economies.

“Apprenticeships offer real, long-term career opportunities for those looking to learn a trade.

“The 60 apprentices we engage will become part of the frontline workforce building and maintaining the electricity network across Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Illawarra, the South Coast and the Southern Highlands.

“Since 1997, Integral Energy has increased its annual intake of apprentices by 500 per cent.”

The 60 apprentices will undertake training at Integral Energy’s $14 million purpose-built Hoxton Park Technical Training Centre, opened this year.

This state of the art facility will provide first class training for more than 300 new apprentices over the next five years, as well providing training in new technical skills right through their careers.

“I’d encourage anyone interested in learning a new trade to get involved,” Mr Graham said.

Upon successful completion, Integral Energy apprentices will receive a nationally recognised qualification, providing a solid foundation for many career streams within Integral Energy and the electricity supply industry worldwide.
